A Surprising Find in the Front Yard: Trench Art Lighter and Coins

When it comes to metal detecting, sometimes the most unexpected treasures are found in the most unlikely places. Robert, a passionate treasure hunter, recently had one of those “you won’t believe where I found it” moments. The location? The front yard.

The item that caught Robert's eye? A trench art lighter, a truly unique and historic find. These lighters, often made by soldiers during World War I and II, are crafted from spent ammunition casings, shell fragments, or other military remnants. Each piece is a piece of history, often personalised or adorned with intricate designs. Finding one is always special, but the fact that it was in the front yard of all places made this find even more intriguing.

Robert unearthed this incredible find using the Equinox 800 paired with a 6-inch coil. Renowned for its precision and depth, the Equinox 800 is a go-to choice for serious metal detectorists. The compact 6-inch coil is ideal for navigating tight spots—around bushes, fences, and other obstacles where larger coils might struggle to reach. This combination gave Robert the edge he needed to uncover this remarkable item with ease.

Alongside the trench art lighter, Robert also unearthed two pennies—a 1939 penny and a 1943 penny. Both coins are interesting in their own right, with the 1943 penny being a notable year due to its wartime production, often made from steel due to copper shortages during World War II. The 1939 penny, on the other hand, has a different significance, marking the start of a tumultuous decade.

For Robert, this experience is a reminder of the unexpected rewards that come with treasure hunting. Sometimes, the best discoveries aren’t made in remote, untouched locations but in the most familiar, overlooked places—like a front yard.
